	Most of my commissions are private but I’ve also made a few stones for public spaces. Words are important to people and can often express the theme of a public artwork better than something abstract. A beautiful line of text is always engaging. Each of these commissions have a story. Its very different to work with an organization than to work with a family. My most recent commission was from the city of Doesburg in the Netherlands. For this project, I worked closely with two very-talented local poets. It was a thrilling process. Three creative people in one room can make the sparks fly! Happily, they were productive sparks which improved the final designs. My work is very solitary and it was a great pleasure to have collaborators on this project. It takes a lot of courage to commission an artwork for a public space. Projects fail, in my opinion, when they are trivial in conception or poorly constructed. Although there are surely exceptions, its difficult to say something silly in stone!
